Vegan and Vegetarian Diets Carry Health and Environmental Benefits
The Vegan Diet
Ranked No. 19 by the U.S. News & World Report, is the diet of a Vegan. It is also on the top ten list as a best weight-loss diet, heart-healthy diet and best diabetes diet. The vegan diet eliminates all animal and dairy products; this includes eggs from a person's diet. This also means no gelatin products as they are made from animal bones and hooves. Vegans load their diets with leafy greens, whole grains, seeds, fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes.
Animal products are the most common source of protein and iron so the vegans have a hard time finding an alternative fix; it isn't impossible though. Moringa, being a superfood with protein, is an amazing source of protein for vegans. It is organic, natural and is growing in popularity being highly sought out by vegans.
Other foods that can be eaten on this diet to obtain their protein sources would be a veggie burger patty which contains 13 grams of protein or four ounces of firm tofu containing eleven grams of protein.
Iron absorption is increased in the vegan diet by pairing foods rich in vitamin C with foods rich in iron. Moringa provides plenty of vitamins, amino acids and other 96 verifiable nutrients. Other foods rich in the mineral are; soybeans, beans and Swiss chard and when eaten with citrus fruits. A study in BMJ reported the vegan diet reduces cholesterol levels and the risk of heart disease. There is also an association of having a better sex life with this diet.
The Vegetarian Diet
The Vegetarian diet does not contain animal products either; however it can contain dairy products if the dieter chooses. This diet is ranked No. 11 by the U.S. News & World Report. The Vegetarian diet is also on the list of top ten diets for; best heart healthy diet, best plant based diet and best diabetes diet. There is no pattern to the Vegetarian diet but it does contain a lot of; fruits, vegetables, whole grains, seeds, nuts and legumes. Moringa powder can be added to the diet to help increase the health benefits.
There are people who are semi-vegetarian as they do not eat "red" meat; however they will eat chicken and fish along with their plant-based foods, dairy and eggs. These diets would contain vegetarian protein to make up for the loss of not gaining it through "red" meat sources. Vegetarians are often referred to as the healthiest eaters and many studies have found this diet associated with; reduction in certain cancers, high blood pressure and an early death.
Benefits from Both Diets
The vegan diet and the Vegetarian diet are both beneficial to the health of the dieter as well as to the environment. Those that follow these diets are less responsible for the emission of greenhouse gases that a cow puts out in a year. The Washington Post reported a cow's output of greenhouse gases is equal to a car burning 235 gallons of gas. Another environmental impact is the loss of rain forests. It is estimated 70 percent of the Amazon rain forest has been destroyed in Latin America to make more room for raising livestock.
